I just found this great quote/graphic on Promise Tangeman’s website, and really felt that it summed up where I’m at right now. It’s summer again, I’ve just graduated from Texas A&M (whoop!!) and begun another internship. As those of you reading this probably already know, my internship this summer is with Compassion International, and I can hardly put into words how excited I am to be brought into this family. This first post will probably be short, I just wanted to share with you all what I will be doing, what Compassion does, and how blessed I am to be here.
I’m the Youth and College Ministry intern, which is in the Constituent Marketing department. I will be able to give you more specifics about my job in later posts, because I don’t have just a ton yet… However, from what I do know, I have to be a little biased and say that I think my job sounds like it might be the most fun
Also, I somehow ended up with a cube that has an incredible view of Pike’s Peak, so that’s a definite plus!! The past two days have been all orientation, but yesterday was a fun day. Our super fun Internship Facilitator, Ela, took all of us out to Garden of the Gods and to the Seven Bridges hike in Cheyenne Canyon. We had a had a great time enjoying nature and getting to know one another! (There’s 22 of us, by the way)
Today was a bit different. We got A LOT of information thrown at us. We learned everything from Compassion’s history, to it’s different ministries, to it’s internal structure, and more. Before today, I thought I knew what Compassion did, but today I learned so much more. Even though it was a lot of information, it was great to hear about it all and really start to feel like a part of the family simply through being informed. I wish I could give you all of the details here, but unfortunately that’s just not reasonable. Hopefully I can take some time to delve deeper into Compassion’s ministries in later posts, but right now watch this video to get a glimpse of the type of impact that can be made on a child’s life through sponsorship. We were shown this today, and I immediately knew I wanted to share it! Also, if you’d like to know more details about Compassion before I get around to sharing them with you, you should definitely check out their website!
Hearing about all of the things that Compassion does, why they do them, and the type of difference it can make has made me even more excited for the summer ahead of me!! Tomorrow afternoon, orientation will have ended and we’ll get to begin working, and I can’t wait. One more thing that I think will enhance my experience exponentially this summer is my host home. Wow, the family I’m staying with is amazing! The Abernathy’s (Kerry, Jenny, and their daughter Rebecca) are such a Godly family, and they’re just so excited for Kaitlin (my roommate, another intern) and I, and they’re constantly encouraging us. I love just sitting on the porch with them and chatting to get to know one another, and tonight I just felt like I was soaking up their wisdom. How did we get so blessed?!
God didn’t have to choose to give me this internship, He doesn’t need me in order to accomplish anything for Compassion. But I am so humbled and grateful that He chose to lead me here. The fact that He has given me this incredible opportunity makes me excited for what’s to come. I know that God has amazing plans, He has a purpose for this internship and it’s going to be a growing season. I know it won’t be easy all the time, but I can’t wait to see where it leads. I can’t even begin to fathom what God’s got in store because I know it’s so much bigger than anything I could ever come up with, and that’s what makes me so excited. I can’t wait to have my world rocked, and I’m excited that it’s going to happen alongside an incredible community of 21 other interns. Boy are we in for an amazing summer!
